Exciting Announcement!
I am now an artist with the website badwatercolor.com!

Badwatercolor.com provides "Elevated Fridge Art" painted by real artists!
From the website:
"You want to give the people you care about something original. Something endearing, that lets them know how important they are to you.
With a few clicks, we can capture your oldest inside joke, or a moment with your newest crush. Let us paint you a watercolor that will say all that and more."

THE ART OF M. LYON
“Art has no purpose other than itself. It is better for being impractical, inefficient, and unnecessary. Its very existence is its most beautiful and worthwhile feature." – Donna Haraway

Color and light, nature and imagination. These are the things that help to inspire my creativity. Sometimes a phrase can spark an idea. Other times, something I read in a book will make the creative muscles start working. Rarely does the final product look like the imagined design. Often, it's better.
The idea informs the medium used. Sometimes I want to develop a particular style or a balance of colors. Sometimes the mood is set by the medium used. Charcoal will provide a darker mood than the whimsy watercolor can impart. If I'm trying to evoke a sense of nostalgia gouache might work best whereas if I want to tell a story, I might opt for layers of colored pencil or acrylic.
Style is not something I hold myself to. There are too many things I want to try and experience.

Driven to create in both writing and art, I have worked to develop my skills in several mediums and subjects. I have studied figure drawing, color theory, two and three-dimensional design, and do work with acrylic, pastel, ink, gouache, and watercolor. The subject matter of my work varies.
